Brisbane Pliosaur: at the Quensland Museum now.

Posted January 3rd, 2009 by admin and filed in Uncategorized
In 1990 a pliosaur fossil was found in Richmond, Queensland. It’s about 100 million years old and it’s not a dinosaur, but a marine reptile.

The fossil is now on display at the Queensland Museum, part of the Cultural Centre at Southbank – click here for a Google Map.

Brisbane Museums: Board and Shelter exhibition at the Museum of Brisbane to 12 Jan 2009

Posted January 3rd, 2009 by admin and filed in Uncategorized
There’s just a few more days left to see the “Board and Shelter” exhibition at the Museum of Brisbane which is inside City Hall on King George Square in the city – it’s on until Monday January 12th 2009.

“Board and Shelter” is an exhibition showing what it’s like to live in a boarding house in Brisbane. I live in a boarding house myself at the moment, and so I really think you should check this out. Of course, what it won’t show is what it’s like to have your life disrupted by violent morons who think that their problems should be your problems, so bear that in mind as well.

Click here for a Google Map showing you where the Museum of Brisbane is. The museum is open from 10am to 5pm daily.

Brisbane Freaky Large Insect Photos: Super Giant Fly

Posted January 2nd, 2009 by admin and filed in Uncategorized

Super Giant Fly, originally uploaded by Craig Jewell.

This photo is by flickr user Craig Jewell. He says:

“I have never seen a fly as big as this one. It was more than twice the size of a standard blow fly. I estimate that it was close to an inch long from head to tail, and its wingspan was also close to an inch.”

If you know what sort of fly it is, Craig would love it if you told him. Click here to go to the photo page on flickr, and leave a comment there to let him know – or leave a comment here and I’ll pass it on.

Brisbane Photos: Riverside Expressway by Night

Posted January 2nd, 2009 by admin and filed in Uncategorized

South Bank, Brisbane, originally uploaded by jovene.

I don’t normally post a lot of photos of Brisbane by night, especially if they feature the Riverside Expressway, because so many people have done these photos already and they have become one of the big cliches of Brisbane photos.

But this photo, taken by flickr user jovene, is a bit different and it caught my eye. According to the photo page, it’s taken from the 9th floor of the Mercure Hotel at 85 North Quay (click here for a Google Map).
